Airing of the Quilts, Saturday, May 12, 2012
Franklin, NC
Make plans to join us in Franklin, North Carolfina, Mother’s Day Weekend for our 2nd Annual Airing of the Quilts. You'll discover hundreds of quilts all throughout Historic Downtown Franklin as businesses and homeowners will be hanging quilts from their store fronts and porches that will create an unbelievable burst of spring color throughout the Town of Franklin, NC and Macon County.
This year we've made this event even bigger.
In addition to the quilts hanging all over Franklin's downtown, at quilt trail block locations, and at private residences all around the county, look for
Quilt Related vendors, special quilt exibitions, a quilt appraiser to tell you about and appraise
your families treasured quilt(s), and a special workshop on Friday the 11th with noted author, lecturer,
teacher and certified appraiser Jane Hall.
“This is event is an outdoor quilt show of sorts,” said Linda Schlott, Franklin Main Street Program Executive Director. “After a long winter, you see many people putting items outdoors to air, especially quilts. What better way to combine tradition and heritage than with this event.”
While the downtown area will be the focus of the event, everyone is invited to join in to create a county-wide display of quilts. So what do you have to do to participate? Simply hang a quilt on your porch, deck, clothes line or even over a bush in your front yard to air. It’s that simple. There is no registration or charge to participate.
“Residents that would like the public to see their quilts airing can contact us to have their location added to a list that will be handed out during the event,” Schlott concluded. Deadline to be included on the list is Friday, April 27, 2012. Call (828) 524-2516 to be included.
Quilt related vendors or fiber artists are invited to apply to be part of this event
